The CoursePractical Experience

The Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) is offered full-time on Bathurst Campus and by distance education to students already employed as qualified paramedics or medics in the Army, Navy or Air Force. Full-time students may be eligible for employment with an ambulance service after two years’ study and may then continue to study externally to receive their Bachelor degree.This course is taught in conjunction with the Ambulance Service of NSW.

Course structure

The course comprises 22 subjects including the following areas of study: anatomy and physiology, clinical studies, law and ethics, health service management and advanced pharmacology.

Charles Sturt University also offers an exit point for this course upon completion of the first 15 subjects with the qualification of Associate Degree in Clinical Practice (Paramedic).

Practical Experience

The Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) provides students with extensive hands-on experience. Students spend up to four hours each week practising their clinical skills in a simulated paramedic environment.

To ensure students graduate with a extensive experience in using the equipment and techniques found in the workplace, our facilities include practice teaching laboratories with the latest equipment used for treating patients in the pre-hospital care environment.

Clinical placements in appropriate healthcare settings are undertaken as internal students are placed with an ambulance service for six weeks during the course. Distance education students conduct clinical placement in hospitals and are supervised in the emergency department, theatre and other critical care settings.

Double degree

Charles Sturt University also offers a double degree in Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic).Graduates of this course are able to practise as both nurses and paramedics, providing excellent employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas where there are often chronic shortages of trained professionals.
