After the completion of a PhD in Biochemistry Nick undertook a postdoctoral position in Canada before returning to Sydney in 1984 as a Wellcome Trust Fellow. He has specialised in Veterinary Parasitology ever since and has led the teaching of the new, cross-discipline Year 3 curriculum in Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney.
In Research he has an international reputation through his work in anthelmintic resistance and his role as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal for Parasitology. In pursuit of answers to research problems and in order to share novel techniques, Nick collaborates with scientists in Australia, USA, Canada, UK, Denmark and Germany.
He has produced a total of 204 publications mainly relating to research comprising five book chapters, 71 refereed papers, 23 other publications, 27 research reports, 22 invited symposia and 54 conference proceedings.
Nick has a leading role in teaching in the PBL program and in research and diagnostic parasitology.
