Linking Standards
CSU linking standards are as follows:
Linking to other CSU web pages
A link to an internal CSU web page should open in the same web browser window, over the top of the current page.
Linking to external sites
A link to an external page should open in a new web browser window. This can be achieved by adding "_blank" to your target tag in the link. For example the source code would look like this -
<a href="external.htm" target="_blank">External link</a>
Dreamweaver and other HTML editors will place this code into your HTML document by filling in the target field in the properties box for a link.
Linking to the CSU site
Occasionally you may be approached by other site owners who would like to place a link from their site to the CSU site. This is generally encouraged, for exposure reasons, however the appropriateness should also be assessed.
Linking from the CSU site
Occasionally you may be approached by other site owners who would like to place a link on our site to theirs. The decision on this should be made by the CSU area involved. It is up to each area to decide if it is appropriate content for their pages.
Recommending a link
If the request is to place the link on general CSU marketing pages the issue must be referred to the manager, Marketing Communications. They will then make a decision in consultation with the Division of Information Technology.
Linking to files or documents
These links should always contain information as to the file size and the type of file next to the link enclosed in square editorial brakets for the users information, eg Word Document [.doc 30kb]. For more information on filetypes and versions see your specific area style guide or contact Web Design & Development.
