What Is This Service?

Email is an official form of University communication. CSU provide a secure University wide email and calendaring system for staff. There are over six thousand email accounts managed by the Division of Information Technology. Email can be accessed from on and off campus and from CSU computers and personally owned devices. The calendaring system can be used to schedule and book videoconferences in addition to traditional meetings and appointments. Distribution lists can be used to simplify group communications.

What Is Included?

  • Load balancing, disaster recovery and high availability
  • Provision of online instructional and support resources
  • Diagnosis and resolution of technical issues

Email services include

  • Creation of new individual and group email accounts
  • Centralised management and storage enabling recovery and backup
  • Microsoft Outlook (email client) provided on all CSU owned staff computers
  • Secure access to email provided from any location using a web browser (weboutlook)
  • Ability to access your email from University owned and personally owned mobile devices
  • Ability to send and receive a file attachment up to 20 mb in size to CSU (@csu.edu.au) email addresses
  • Ability to send a file attachment up to 20 mb in size to non CSU email addresses
  • Ability to recover deleted emails from Outlook
  • Mailbox quota allocation
  • Ability to archive emails that are not required and store in TRIM
  • Virus scanning and spam filtering

Calendar services include

  • Meeting scheduling for individuals, groups and videoconference room bookings
  • Accessible from Outlook, weboutlook and mobile devices
  • Ability to allow your staff to manage your calendar and other items (set Delegate Access)
  • Ability to create and share calendars with other staff

Email distribution list management services include

  • Ability to request creation of University wide distribution lists for group email
  • Ability to create personal distribution lists within Outlook

How Do I Initiate This Service?

Accounts are automatically created email account creation for permanent, part time and contract staff

Email accounts for casual staff must be requested from the IT Service Desk

Email accounts can be created for temporary staff accounts by ticking the email account option when creating the temporary account

Creation of University wide distribution lists must be requested by contacting the IT Service Desk

CSU Spam Filtering System

To automatically release an email message from Quarantine open the Quarantined spam messages email notification (sender is Sophos Email Appliance Admin), click on the corresponding message ID for the email you wish to release. It will be delivered to your Inbox within 5 minutes (unless you have rules set up that filter it and deliver it to another folder)

To manually release emails from the CSU Spam Filtering System (Sophos Email Appliance) go to this page https://antispam.csu.edu.au enter your username and password and click Login, click in the tick box next to the required email and click the Deliver Message button

How Much Does It Cost?

Creation, management and support of the email and calendaring service is funded by the University and provided at no additional cost to staff.

Where Can I Find On Line Self Help or More Information?

Antispam

Emails are filtered to prevent staff receiving explicit content.  Sophos behavioural genotype technology is used as a preventative measure against constantly evolving threats including viruses, phishing, spyware and malware. You should be aware that not all phishing emails can be blocked as they replicate legitimate emails.  Education is the best protection against these threats. Click the link below to learn more.
