What Is This Service?

A staff account provides access to IT services and is commonly referred to as your CSU username and password or CSU login.

A staff account is comprised of a username and password and uniquely identifies you within the University. A username consists of the first (or first two or three letters) of your first name and first few letters of your last name up to a maximum of 8 characters (eg Amy Robinson would have the username arobinso, if another Amy Robinson joined CSU her username would be amrobins). Usernames are case sensitive, if, for example, your username is jsmith you must enter it as jsmith, Jsmith or JSmith will not work.

What Is Included?

  • Automatic creation of a staff account upon accepting letter of offer (if paid by HR)
  • Ability for a Supervisor to provide staff access to those who will not be paid by HR by using the Temporary Account Administration System
  • Ability to obtain your username and password details online using the account activation system
  • Ability to retrieve your forgotten password online
  • Ability to change your password at any time
  • Ability to login to CSU computers and many online services including staff email, staff.csu, Internet, Webkiosk, printer deployment, software downloads, CSUSAP (personal web publishing server) and Library Journal Databases
  • Ability to connect your personal devices to the on campus wireless network and connect to the Eduroam network when visiting participating institutions
  • Assistance with login and access issues
  • Automatic termination of your staff account when you leave CSU

Your staff account identifies and authenticates you to access restricted systems and online services. You must treat your password like your ATM card PIN to prevent any unauthorised use. Any misuse of IT systems or breach of the Policy for the Use of University Computing and Communication Facilities are the responsibility of the account owner. If you think someone knows your password and has logged into your account change your password immediately and advise the IT Service Desk of any activity not performed by you on your account.

How Do I Initiate This Service?

Staff accounts are created automatically once position details have been entered into Alesco (HR Information System) by the Division of Human Resources. Use the online account activation system to obtain your username and password.

Staff who will not be paid by the Division of Human Resources require a Supervisor to create an account for them using the Temporary Access Administration System. CSU PhD and RHD students, visiting research students, external contractors, consultants and vendors are examples of people requiring staff access who are not automatically provided with a staff account. Supervisors are responsible for maintaining this access and disabling it when it is no longer required.

How Much Does It Cost?

Creation, management and support of staff accounts are funded by the University and provided at no additional cost to staff.
