Annual leave

Annual leave is an essential part of working life, allowing staff to take paid time off to relax and recharge.

Entitlement

  • Full-time staff accrue 20 annual leave days per annum.
  • Part-time staff accrue annual leave on a pro rata basis.
  • Casual staff are not entitled to annual leave.

Applying for annual leave

You must take annual leave each year. Approval is subject to operational needs.

You can book your annual leave through Web Kiosk. Part-time staff without a set roster can apply using the annual leave form.

Annual leave balance

You can check your annual leave balance on Web Kiosk by going to My HR > Leave > Leave Balances.

Select an enquiry date and click on Calculate Balances to see your entitlement. This is useful when planning future leave to ensure you have enough leave available to cover the period.

Excessive annual leave

If you accrue more than 50 days of annual leave, the University will direct you to take leave from a fixed date.

For more information, visit excessive annual leave.

Accruing while on other leave

Employees continue to accrue annual leave while on:

  • annual leave
  • long service leave
  • personal leave (paid or unpaid)
  • Defence Force leave
  • paid parental leave
  • special leave.

Annual leave loading

Annual leave loading is payable to fixed-term and continuing employees. Maximum payment levels are:

  • Professional/general staff - maximum payment up to Level 10, Step 1.
  • Academic staff – maximum payment up to Level B, Step 6.

Annual leave loading is calculated on 17.5% of 4 weeks of your ordinary salary (to the maximum stated above) at 30 November. It is paid in December each year.

If you're a senior/executive staff member, leave loading is rolled into your annual salary.

Cashing out annual leave

In cases of hardship, you may cash out part of your annual leave. You must retain a balance of at least four weeks. For more information, visit cashing out annual leave.

Leaving CSU

If you leave the University, you'll be paid your accrued annual leave in a lump sum.
