Continuing and fixed-term appointments may be offered on a full-time or part-time basis. Conditions of employment are set out in the Enterprise Agreement.
Continuing employment
Continuing employment refers to ongoing employment with the University.
Fixed-term employment
Fixed-term employment is for a specified term with a clear expiry date. There should be no expectation of renewal of a fixed-term appointment.
Required competencies
The required competencies for academic and professional general staff appointments are outlined in the Position Classification Standards and Descriptors and the University's Capability Framework.
The Policy on Standards, Expectations and Qualifications of Academic Staff provides a foundation for and informs their probation, performance management and promotion.
Remuneration
Salary rates for continuing and fixed-term staff are set under the Enterprise Agreement.
Part-year employment
A part-year employment arrangement is one where employees work full-time for a set number of weeks per year.

Academic Institutional Leadership positions
The types of appointments referred to as Academic Institutional Leadership positions are:
- Research Centre Directors
- Associate Heads of School
- Associate Deans
- Sub-Deans
- Course Directors.
These positions support the delegation of leadership and management responsibilities within Faculties and Schools. The terms and conditions of these appointments are set out in the following policy and procedures:

Referee checks
The referee check is an essential component of the selection process. It allows you to assess whether the candidate is a suitable fit for CSU. It provides insight into a candidate’s previous work performance whilst validating evidence gathered during the application and interview process. Furthermore, it provides the opportunity to seek additional relevant information not captured during the application or interview.

Immigration and visas
All foreign nationals taking up an appointment, or visiting one of the University's campuses in Australia require immigration visas.
