Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent Duration). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.
Applicants without a tertiary qualification may be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning on the basis of professional attainment and/or work experience. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, students will then be eligible for admission to the Master Applied Finance and receive credit for applicable subjects.
No special arrangements apply.
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 32 points.
The Graduate Certificate comprises 4 subjects: 1 core subject and 3 restricted electives. All subjects are of eight point value for a total course value of 32 points.
FIN560 Financial Planning

There is no single prescribed enrolment pattern. The course is designed to enable 3 intakes per year and variations in student workload (many students prefer to study 1 subject per session).
It is recommended that students complete FIN560 in their first session, but otherwise the enrolment pattern is flexible and students are free to choose the number and order of subjects per session that best meets their needs.

The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning has been designed to meet the training requirements of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
The Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning is an entry point for the Master of Applied Finance and the structure of the course supports the development of knowledge areas that will form the basis for specialisations in the following areas:
Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA)
The Financial Planning specialisation within the Master of Applied Finance (MAF) is an approved degree by the FPA Australia. Graduates of MAF completing this specialisation are eligible for entry and advanced standing in the CFP® Certification Program (leading to the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation).
Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP)
The Master of Applied Finance is an Accredited Education Partner with STEP, the worldwide professional association for practitioners dealing with family inheritance and succession planning. Graduates of MAF completed the set of 5 subjects which form the basis for the Estate Planning specialization will be accredited, with credits that can be used towards STEP membership.
