This subject is provided in recognition of students' full and compliant participation in an International Short term Program.

Programs will typically consist of a 3 or 4 week cultural and educational program in an international setting involving students living in another country; engaging in studies of culture, language, history, art, etc. with visits to sites of cultural and educational siginficance, and intercultural engagment with local peers.

Programs may include some practical experience in a school setting.

Available to all students studying through the School of Teacher Education, School of Education, School of Information Studies or the School of Indigenous Australian Studies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

This subject will cover the following topics:

Typically: - Orientation to international partner institutions and personnel - Creating intercultural spaces through social activity - Studies of Culture: History, Language, Art, Music, Food, Dance, Manners, Communication - Visits to Sites of hitorical, cultural, national and local significance - Teaching in a different cultural setting - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - Keeping a diary/journal record of experiences and studies.

Residential School

This subject contains a 1 day Compulsory Residential School.This is an Orientation day in which students are provided with specifics of the International Short Term Program, Travel arrangements, Cultural orientation, survival language, expectations and conditions of participation. It is an opportunity for students to meet with each other, and participating lecturers. Orientation to school experience component of the program is provided, including an introduction to the school system, spcific school experience tasks, TESOL strategies.
