EEL416 Learning and Teaching at CSU (8)

EEL416 Learning & Teaching at CSU introduces participants to key issues and challenges in planning, designing and facilitating learning in higher education. The subject addresses the needs of academic probation at CSU for academic staff from the School of Policing Studies and CSU staff on 1-3 year contracts. The subject addresses two key areas of academic activity relevant to academic probation at CSU and the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Associate Fellowship, which are HEA 1: Design and plan learning activities and/or programmes of study and HEA 2: Teach and/or support learning. Participants are required to demonstrate completion of the Indigenous Cultural Competency Program as an essential component of this subject.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to plan and design quality teaching and learning experiences that are informed by a scholarly understanding of student learning and appropriate pedagogies;
  • be able to demonstrate effective preparation and performance in teaching and supporting student learning that is informed by scholarship and reflective practice; and
  • be able to reflect on their learning from the Indigenous Cultural Competency Program and its influence on their teaching ideals and practices.


This subject will cover the following topics:
  • The syllabus consists of a range of aligned modules and assessment tasks that students select to address their personal and professional teaching development needs. Students choose two elective modules with one from each of two HEA Areas of Activity. Participants are required to demonstrate completion of the Indigenous Cultural Competency Program.
  • HEA 2: Developing as a Teacher or Learning & Teaching in a Digital Age
  • HEA 1: Course & Subject Design or Workplace Learning
  • The Indigenous Cultural Competency Program (ICCP)
