Graduate teachers need to know and understand literacy teaching strategies that are particular to their content area and the stage of learning of their students. This subject addresses knowledge and application of those strategies to meet the needs of diverse primary and secondary school classes. As part of this, students will engage with contemporary research-based perspectives and approaches to teaching literacies. The subject also includes application of models and texts to teach numeracy skills to support learning across the curriculum. The subject has a focus on practical strategies for literacy learning and use, especially in relation to written, spoken and visual texts that are subject-specific. Strategies include practices with digital technologies and texts.
