EMR442 Curriculum Method 2: Senior Health, Physical and Outdoor Education (8)

This curriculum subject focuses on the NSW Stage 6 PDHPE syllabus offerings (PDHPE, CAFS, SLR, EEC) and the VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies curriculum. The subject provides opportunities for students to apply contemporary evidence-based knowledge and pedagogies to plan, assess and report on student achievement of curriculum outcomes. Students further learn to differentiate outcomes, content, processes and assessments to cater for the needs of diverse learners. Students create and embed digital resources into lesson design and assessment, while ensuring students' e-safety. The subject supports students to design and facilitate learning experiences from a socio-cultural perspective of health, wellbeing and physical activity.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to develop teaching, learning, and assessment sequences that apply NESA or VCE curriculum requirements and the vision, values, principles, and pedagogical practices of PDHPE or Outdoor and Environmental Studies (Stage 6);
  • be able to describe strategies for differentiating teaching, learning and assessment to be inclusive of learner ability and needs;
  • be able to design and facilitate engaging student-centred pedagogies that promote higher order thinking, and learner responsibility;
  • be able to engage with, select and design digital resources to enhance student achievement of outcomes, taking into consideration students' e-safety;
  • be able to develop and apply strategies to enhance students' literacy, digital literacy and numeracy skills appropriate to PDHPE and/or outdoor education (Stage 6); and
  • be able to design and evaluate learning experiences aligned with assessment processes that incorporate the social justice principles of equity, diversity and inclusive environments.

  • Stage 6 VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies curriculum
  • Syllabus pedagogies: Critical inquiry, theories & frameworks (Quality Teaching Framework - Intellectual Quality)
  • Syllabus perspectives: Socio-cultural perspective of health and physical activity
  • Differentiating for learners with diverse needs including Life Skills
  • Embedding Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures in PDHPE
  • Scope and Sequence: Preliminary & HSC, VCE Units 1, 2 & 3, 4
  • Programming: Preliminary & HSC/VCE
  • Assessment: NESA & VCAA requirements schedules, tasks, marking criteria, internal & external assessment
  • Reporting: NSW Preliminary & HSC, VCAA Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
