ESS528 Designing Program Evaluation for Inclusive Education Settings (8)

This subject builds capacity in the design of program evaluation at AQF level 9 for applied educational settings. Students will identify an evidence-based programmatic practice and build the evaluation design in readiness to implement a program evaluation. This includes:
* defining the object of the evaluation
* conducting a targeted literature review
* developing evaluation questions
* building a methodology
The subject is paired with ESS529 which is focused on following the design through to implementation of the evaluation in an applied setting. ESS528 is nonetheless a standalone subject.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to build the three components of the evaluation project: a program description, a logic model, and a description of audiences and stakeholders;
  • be able to develop a targeted literature review for the object of the evaluation that represents an evidence-based practice or approach. The targeted review will include a description of search methodology, an account of the key features and findings in relation to the object, a description of the structure of the review, and a statement of conclusions capable of producing key evaluation questions;
  • be able to develop a set of evaluation questions derived from the review of literature and knowledge of the setting;
  • be able to select and describe an evaluation model that is appropriate for answering their evaluation questions;
  • be able to define and describe the data sources and instruments/methods required to answer their evaluation questions;
  • be able to develop the methodology and process for collecting and analysing the data required to answer their evaluation questions; and,
  • be able to develop an ethics application for their program evaluation to be submitted to the faculty ethics committee.
