ETL501 The Dynamic Information Environment (8)

This subject is designed to provide a specialist understanding of the provision of information resources and services within the learning and teaching context of the school. Search strategies, information sources and resource evaluation are examined in relation to print and digital environments. The teacher librarian's role in the creation, design, structure and flow of information in the school is explored, in particular the use of Web 2.0 tools. The design of physical and virtual school library spaces and their relationship to the curriculum is also examined.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically evaluate the learning and teaching context in which a range of resources and services are used in schools to support curriculum programs;
  • be able to investigate and explain how information is effectively sought and utilised;
  • be able to develop and evaluate highly effective search strategies and apply these to the learning and teaching context;
  • be able to link the provision of information resources and services for the school community to the development of information literacy outcomes across the school;
  • be able to critically evaluate and demonstrate understanding of good design principles to organise and develop physical and virtual spaces in the school library that meet 21st century teaching and learning needs;
  • be able to evaluate and use Web 2.0 tools to provide innovative digital information resources; and
  • be able to evaluate and integrate Web 2.0 tools to develop curriculum resources that support the learning and teaching context.
