JST450 Introduction to Intelligence (8)

This subject provides the student with an introductory overview to the theory and practice of intelligence. It will equip the student with a foundational understanding of and knowledge about intelligence theory, the contexts of intelligence practice, intelligence analysis and the role of intelligence. Moreover, this subject introduces the basic skills that analysts and intelligence professionals need to meet the obligations of their role.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • demonstrate application of knowledge of a range of contemporary intelligence practitioner issues and problems (particularly related to the role of intelligence, technology, ethics, management, and the role of the private sector);
  • make high level, independent judgments in a range of intelligence contexts, including preparing intelligence briefs and evaluating case studies;
  • demonstrate highly developed written communication skills in the context of intelligence briefs and other written tasks; and
  • demonstrate through written intelligence products, advanced cognitive skills and the ability to evaluate complex problems.
