This subject utilises problem-based learning to enable students to explore specialised occupational therapy practice and specific cases that present additional complexity. It is a capstone subject where students further develop their occupational therapy professional reasoning skills, while also building knowledge of five different practice areas. The five modules of learning may include: mental health with alcohol and other drugs; occupational rehabilitation; neurological rehabilitation; and early intervention for children. Students will have the opportunity to learn with and from other health professional students for at least one module of learning, to further develop their skills in inter-professional collaboration. The module topics will be flexible each year, in order to be responsive to changes within the profession and differences in student cohorts. A problem-based learning approach is used for all modules to enable students to apply knowledge and skills from workplace learning experiences and previous subjects, to further develop their professional reasoning abilities.
