This subject introduces students to the speech pathology profession, including the scope of practice and professional and ethical frameworks that influence and shape current practice in Australia. Within this subject, students develop skills in critical reflection and apply these to exploring their previous learning, and professional and personal experiences in the context of developing theoretical and professional knowledge. Students also reflect on their pre-existing personal and professional communicative competence and critique this in relation to models of language use in everyday and professional contexts. Students develop skills in professional communication, reflection and clinical reasoning, and set and evaluate professional learning goals in relation to these professional competencies. Learning and assessment activities within this subject are designed to support the development of digital literacy as a foundation for further learning in the Master of Speech Pathology and a tool for later clinical practice.
