EEL522 Foundations of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (16)

EEL522 Foundations of Learning & Teaching in Higher Education introduces participants to professional development planning and to the key issues and challenges in planning, designing and facilitating learning in higher education. The subject addresses the needs of academic probation at Charles Sturt University (CSU) and is based on the criteria for becoming a Higher Education Academy (HEA) Associate Fellow. Participants prepare a Professional Development Plan that helps them identify their teaching strengths and development needs and to choose a pathway through a menu of modules structured around three HEA areas of activity. Participants complete authentic assessments related to their teaching practice and develop a reflective narrative on their learning and achievement with respect to the subject learning outcomes. Participants are required to demonstrate completion of the Indigenous Cultural Competency Program (ICCP) as an essential component of this subject.

Enrolment Restrictions

This subject is restricted to CSU academic staff and others teaching CSU subjects or supervising CSU students, such as staff from the School of Policing Studies, Study Centre staff and workplace learning supervisors.

The subject may be a requirement for CSU academic staff on probation.  

Not available to students who have completed EEL409 or EEL416 or EEL516.

Subject Relationships

EEL416 EEL416 is undertaken by staff who require an 8 pt subject for academic probation. The EEL416 learning outcomes, syllabus and assessments are drawn from EEL516/EEL522 and students undertake two elective modules in two of the three HEA Areas of Activity addressed in EEL516/EEL522 to make up 8 pts of learning volume.
EEL409 EEL409 is undertaken by students who have completed EEL416 and wish to continue with the GCLTHE. It represents the remaining components of EEL516/EEL522 that were not taken in EEL416 and all of the modules and assessment tasks are drawn from EEL516/EEL522.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
