Having carried out research in higher education and quality assurance over a number of years, Stella is now a walnut grower and she is embarking on research in this area.
Stella joined NWGIC as PhD student in 2019 to follow her passion in research.
Specialisation: Botryosphaeria dieback in walnuts
Focus Area: Fungi belong to Botryosphaeriaceae family
Fungi belonging to the family Botryosphaeriaceae have been implicated in significant economic loss in many horticultural crops including walnuts. However, research on the dieback caused by these fungi in walnut orchards in Australia is non-existent. Stella’s doctoral research is intended to address this gap.
Her research will provide information on the incidence, species distribution, and pathogenicity of Botryosphaeriaceae in the Australian walnut orchards. It will assess the available control methods and the outcomes of this assessment will inform the adoption of strategies suitable to the Australian context.
