From the Organisers

Our theme

The theme of the 2020 Things that Make for Peace Conference II is “Peace Within, Peace Without: Theological and Philosophical Explorations”

The 2017 Islamophobia Report revealed that over 50% of Australian have a negative view of the role religion plays in contemporary society. Underwriting that statistic is the perception that religion is responsible for much of the violence in the world, a perception that ignores the reality that religious people are most commonly the victim, rather than perpetrators of violence.

This conference seeks to counter that perception, exploring texts and traditions that might promote the growth of peace.

Conference hosts

The Conference is organised by Anthony Rees and Mehmet Ozalp, two fellows at the Centre for Public and Contextual Theology, Charles Sturt University. The conference has received funding from PaCT and the Faculty of Arts and Education at CSU.
