Projects

The Weed Research Group has numerous projects supported both internally and externally by the following organisations:

  • Charles Sturt University
  • Graham Centre New Research Initiatives Grants and Postdoctoral Fellowships
  • RIRDC National Weed Research Program
  • Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC)
  • Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA)
  • Office of Medical and Science Research (NSW OMSR ); and
  • Australian Research Council (ARC).

These projects include both applied and more basic research on the biology and management of key invasive weed species across the Southern Region, and are focused on: development of strategies for improved detection and movement of invasive weeds, studies on the biology and genetics of problem weed species, development of strategies to combat herbicide resistance in annual weeds in the Southern Region, and utilisation of new tools for management including non-chemical alternatives, biocontrol agents or biological herbicides or natural products for enhanced management.

Collaboration amongst researchers has led to new funding initiatives such as those from the National Weeds Research Program through RIRDC, and continued funding for longer term studies such as those funded by GRDC and ARC.

The Weed Research Group has generated over $3 million since 2007 to fund new research initiatives. Listed below are the recent research projects within the Weed Research Group.
