Study on campus
Studying at CSU in Port Macquarie lets you enjoy a campus with coastal surroundings, close to the town centre. You'll experience small class sizes, a mix of learning styles and amazing facilities.
Benefits of studying on campus
We're near the heart of Port Macquarie, which has:
- a friendly lifestyle
- beaches for surfing and swimming
- a coastal rainforest
- sunny weather
Our campus is opposite the Lake Innes Village Shopping Centre. This is about 5 kilometres from Port Macquarie's Central Business District.
You'll study at a three-level campus with indoor and outdoor teaching spaces. A mix of natural material and colours compliment the Mid-North Coast surroundings.
Small class sizes to help you learn and make friends easily
Our smaller student groups make CSU different to other universities. Many of our students tell us this helped them to interact easily with lecturers and make lifelong friends with other students.
- lectures and tutorials as small as 15-30 students
- intensive learning and interaction with lecturers and students
- a personalised and supportive study experience suited to your needs.
Having smaller student groups on campus means you can also enjoy:
- plenty of social activities to meet and make friends
- a warm and friendly environment that makes you feel connected
- sharing your experiences with many other Australian and international students have also moved away from home.
My experience has been fantastic! The small class sizes allow you to meet your lecturers and your peers. Your lecturers know you by your name and are happy to help. I've made lots of new and everlasting friendships.
Experience a mix of teaching styles
You'll have a mix of face-to-face and video classes on campus at Port Macquarie. Our video classes are known as interactive video-teaching (IVT).
Both of these styles mean you'll be able to:
- have a mix of lectures and tutorials
- interact with expert academics and students
- get all the resources you need
- live close to our Port Macquarie campus.
You'll mostly have face-to-face classes in your first year so you can settle into university. You'll continue to have face-to-face classes and some more IVT classes later on in your degree. Nearly all your IVT classes will be on campus in lecture or tutorial room at Port Macquarie.
There will be an academic from another CSU campus working through subject content live with you and the Port Macquarie class over video. You'll also get to connect with your peers from across CSU's other campuses.
IVT helps us bring credible, expert academics to you in Port Macquarie. We have IVT at each of our campuses to keep our small classes and connect you to teaching staff across multiple cities.
It's like having a lecturer there with you who you can interact with over a video conference. We know our IVT lecturers and can rely on them just as much as our face-to-face lecturers. If we're struggling we can email or call our lecturers from other campuses. As well as working with your class in Port Macquarie, we get to interact with students from Bathurst or Dubbo.
Build skills to take with you into modern workplaces
There are lots of skills you can pick-up from IVT that you'll need after uni for your career. You'll learn skills for online communication, meetings and collaboration in modern workplaces.
I've improved my confidence for public speaking and to ask questions in front of IVT classes.
You'll learn skills to take initiative, communicate, interact and work with people in video conferencing situations. The more I develop these skills for video teaching, the better I get at using these skills in person. We'll use these skills in the corporate world with meetings and video conferences.

We’re proud of CSU’s history in Port Macquarie
The first intake of students at CSU Port Macquarie was in March 2012. This represented a new chapter for CSU as this was our first coastal regional campus. It provided opportunities for students to study close to the beach and options for local students to access world-class higher education close to home.
In April 2016, staff and students moved into Stage One of their purpose built campus. There are another two stages expected to be completed over the coming years with a projected student intake of 5000 by the year 2030. The next few years will see continued growth of courses offered at the Port Macquarie campus. CSU representatives are building relationships with the local community, in business, government and other educational institutions, to ensure that the Campus is a significant contributor to the future of the entire region.
