Graham Centre Angus Australia Internships

Aim

The Graham Centre Angus Australia Internships aim to increase undergraduate students' interest in research through a range of focused activities related to cattle production.

Value

Two internships are available, each offering a stipend of $5,000 (tax-free), which is co-funded by Angus Australia and the Graham Centre. The stipend is paid in two instalments.

Eligibility

Who can apply?

  • Students who are enrolled in a full-time, undergraduate degree at CSU, and have completed at least one full year of their undergraduate degree.
  • Students who have not already commenced an Honours degree.

Guidelines

About the program

Successful applicants will work in the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program for 14 months, from October 2019 to November 2020, engaged in activities such as:

  • assisting with the Artificial Insemination of cattle in the CSU Angus herd (approx 4 days in late October 2019)
  • undertaking a short-term (1-2 week) placement at Angus Australia. Interns will work with Angus Australia on projects such as the ASBP, Angus National Conference and Angus Youth Round-up
  • assisting with monitoring calving in August/September 2020. This will include weighing and recording calf data (approximately 2-3 hours daily over a 2-4 week period).

Other information

Students are not permitted to work on weekends or public holidays.

Successful applicants must submit a Work Plan by early April, developed in conjunction with their Supervisor. Interns will be required to submit a report at the end of their internship.

The supervisor must also provide a report at the end of the internship.

Criteria for Assessment

  • Demonstrated interest in research related to beef production
  • A commitment to further research related to the Centre's Research Pathways through the Honours program
