Publication Support Grants


To support dissemination of scholarly research and increase impact by supporting Graham Centre Members to submit their research for publication in ERA-listed, high-impact journals.

Variable. Applicants must provide justification for the amount requested and necessity for seeking Graham Centre support for these costs. Note that there is limited funding available, therefore partial funding may be offered. Award amounts are capped at $2,500 per publication.


Who can apply?

  • Full and Associate Members of the Graham Centre who are academic staff of CSU or employed in a research capacity with NSW DPI are eligible to apply.
  • Student Members are also encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to members who have projects administered by the Graham Centre.
  • Affiliates and Adjuncts are not eligible to apply.


(a)  Members may submit more than one application in a calendar year. Each application must be on a separate application form

(b) Applications may be made in advance of submission to publisher OR prior to acceptance of the paper. Any approval for funding will be contingent on evidence of acceptance from the publisher

(c) Applications should describe how the publication aligns with the Centre’s Research Pathways

(d) A copy of the full article (where available) should be submitted with your application. An abstract will be accepted with the application if the full article is not yet available

(e) This scheme should not be used when funds are available from another source. All applications should indicate whether other sources of funding support have been investigated, and what those are. Note that award amounts are capped at $2,500 per publication.

(f) Articles must be intended for peer-reviewed journals included on a current ERA list.  Funds will not be provided to support papers in predatory journals. You will need to include the SNIP for your journal (Scopus website via CSU Library login)

(g) The journal should be included on the Directory of Open Access Journals.

(h) Please provide reasons why you have selected this particular journal.

(i) Please provide information on the Journal's metrics from (for example):

  • Web of Science category and rank
  • Scimago Journal and Country rank information (uses SCOPUS database)
  • Google Scholar metrics

Other requirements

By applying for a Publication Support Grant, the applicant agrees to the following:

  • Papers will be submitted for inclusion in the University’s database, CRO, within ONE MONTH of publication.
  • All papers will acknowledge the funds provided from the Graham Centre (example: 'We acknowledge the financial support provided by the Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation'). It is not sufficient to just indicate affiliation with the Centre.
  • The successful applicant will provide a publisher's Tax Invoice made out to Charles Sturt University. This invoice should contain all required payment information, and be submitted to the Graham Centre.
  • Where partial funding is offered, the applicant agrees to cover the balance of publishing costs.
  • Funds will be paid direct to the publisher. Funds will not be reimbursed to the applicant.

Criteria for assessment

Applications will be assessed on:

  • evidence of strong alignment of paper with Research Pathway
  • the basis of journal ranking. Publication must be included on the current ERA list
  • Listing with the DOAJ for all open access journals
  • funding has also been sourced from other avenues
  • number of previous successful applications by an individual member
  • Member's projects administered with the Graham Centre.
