Prof Leslie Weston and Dr Xiaocheng Zhu recently visited Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, China, to attend the Asian Allelopathy Society Meeting. Leslie presented a keynote address at the meeting looking at two invasive Echium species, while Xiaocheng presented a paper on sorgoleone production by Sorghum leiocladum, an Australian native sorghum species.
While in Fujian they worked to strengthen international partnerships in the areas of weed science, metabolomics, genomics and proteomics. As part of their visit, they gave a seminar to the Entomology and Ecology Department and discussed future cooperation between the Graham Centre and the university with the Dean of Agriculture, Prof Rensen Zeng (previous visitor to the Graham Centre), and Vice Presidents Prof Zonghua Wang and Prof Wenxiong Lin. Profs Lin and Zeng are keen to partner with the Graham Centre, with their post-doctoral students working in Australia as visiting scientists, and our staff working at Fujian University. While at Fujian University Prof Weston and Dr Zhu also met with research collaborator and Graham Centre member Prof Geoff Gurr, who is currently working at Fujian University for six months as part of his Thousand Talents Research Fellowship.
