Focus on food loss and waste along the supply chain

The 2016 Crawford Fund Conference held in Canberra 30 August, titled 'Waste not, want not: the circular economy to food security' focused on food loss and waste issues along the supply chain; production, getting product to market and the management and reuse of waste. The role of supermarkets was also in the spotlight. The conference program included world renowned experts in the area of food security, and reducing food loss and waste, provided question and answer sessions and opportunities for networking.

The Graham Centre and Functional Grains Centre sponsored 2 PhD students, Mr Thomas Williams and Ms Shiwangni Rao to attend the conference. The Crawford Fund sponsored PhD student Ms Shumalia Arif  to attend the conference. In addition to the conference on 30 August, a scholars program was held on the 29th and 31st August, with 40 young scholars from across Australia attending. The scholars program encourages young people, providing them with information and encouragement around further study, careers and volunteering in international agricultural research.
