Verification of the production system of origin of grass and grain fed beef

This project will aim to provide the beef industry with a scientific based verification method for the production system and raising claims on grass and grain-fed beef products.

The clear purpose of the project is to develop robust scientific method for verifying the production claims of grass and grain-fed beef products to ensure Australian beef products remain competitive in vital markets including Asia, the United States and the EU through ensuring confidence in claims of production and raising systems.

By focusing this research on Raman spectroscopic hand held devices, which are already commercially available, this project will focus on the application of the technology, development of the method for verification and validation of the method over multiple seasons.

Information provided by this method will be fed back to producers, ensuring transparency of payment systems and will provide a clear cue to importers and retailers looking to purchase Australian grass-fed products.
