Professor John Koehn

Professor John Koehn

Professor John Koehn is a freshwater fish ecologist with extensive research experience across a wide range of species and topics. Key research areas include native species, fish habitats and movements, invasive species (especially Carp), threatened species recovery, recreational angling species, breeding ecology and recruitment, population assessment and population modeling. Innovation and use of new technologies, development of ideas and research teams have been important to his research approach.

John has also focused his career on applying his knowledge to management problems, including environmental flows, climate change, river restoration and population recovery, Carp, the Murray-Darling Basin and more recently, overseas subsistence freshwater fisheries. His is widely sought for his expertise, having been a member of many expert and review panels, threatened species recovery teams and Ministerial or agency committees.
