Understanding copyright is essential for both your academic and professional life.

As a student, researcher, or staff member at university you need to be aware of copyright law to:

  • Manage the rights in your own intellectual property
  • Avoid infringing on the rights of other creators
  • Maintain your academic integrity and reputation

Authority to approve licensing or reuse of Charles Sturt IP is managed under the University Delegations and Authorisations Policy Schedule A – Governance and Legal Delegations (A40).

External parties should email requests for permission to reuse Charles Sturt copyright works to the Copyright and Open Content Librarian.

If you believe a copyright work is available on the Charles Sturt University network or systems in such a way that constitutes copyright infringement, or a breach of an agreed licence or contract, please notify the Copyright and Open Content Librarian as per Copyright Regulations 2017, Schedule 2, Part 3.

The notification must include:

  • Your name and contact details
  • Details of the work/s that are the subject of the claimed infringement
  • The URL and page name with the infringing content
  • A statement indicating whether you are the owner of the work/s or acting on behalf of the owner
