Abstract|
The subject develops Honours students’ understanding of key thinkers and theories in the Humanities and Social Sciences through a selection of topics. The topics are selected in consultation with the supervisor so as to enrich students' sense of the selected field. It equips students with a theoretical and contextual basis to engage with their Honours project/dissertation. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to discuss critically the contributions of key thinkers in the area of the students chosen topic
- be able to evaluate critically different theories and issues in the Humanities or Social Sciences
- be able to use appropriate theories and concepts in their own writing
- be able to apply selected research principles and methods relevant to their chosen discipline
- be able to to plan project work and/or a piece of research and scholarship with some independence

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- Skills in critical review, analysis and synthesis of discipline specific knowledge
- The application of discipline specific knowledge and theories to a piece of research and scholarship.
- Key thinkers, theories and methods in the Humanities and/or Social Sciences
- Selected topics by the student in consultation with the supervisor drawn from the Humanities and Social Sciences
