Abstract

This subject provides a foundation into the concepts and skills of business analysis and its implementation. The subject follows the core of the Introductory Certificate in Business Analysis (ICBA) from the Business Analyst International Qualifications (BAIQ) and is enhanced with practical application knowledge. The subject covers the entire process from problem investigation through requirements and information gathering to solution engineering. It examines stakeholder communication and buy-in principles as part of the solution process, as well as change management and implementation. This subject covers the entire process of identifying, solving, and selling solutions to business problems.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify and describe the role, purpose and function of business analysis as a professional discipline;
  • be able to understand the functions of business analysis tools and techniques and to apply them appropriately;
  • be able to analyse business challenges and to gather appropriate information for their investigation;
  • be able to design and create suitable solutions to business challenges using the typical tools of business analysis;
  • be able to devise a stakeholder buy-in and alignment strategy, and to manage and influence the stakeholder decision process;
  • be able to integrate solution design with typical business solution implementation processes; and
  • be able to compare and contrast technical and non-technical business analysis techniques to effectively leverage technology in solution design.
