This subject considers the central concepts, modes of enquiry and structure of the content of mathematics. Students will explore mathematical concepts with a strong emphasis on numeracy as an enjoyable and relevant way of constructing mathematical meaning and ideas. This subject also introduces students to the use of technological media both as a personal tool for study at a tertiary level and as a medium for learning.

- have evaluated the nature and role of Mathematics in describing and modelling patterns and relationships that can be generalised, and as a means of interpreting the world;
- be able to demonstrate the purposes and functions of mathematics and numeracy in the community;
- demonstrate a broad and critical knowledge and understanding of the mathematics discipline;
- be able to utilise a constructivist approach to mathematics learning;
