ENG292 Engineering Portfolio - Developing (14)

In this subject students draw upon their experience in industry to demonstrate that they are progressively obtaining the skills and attributes expected of a CSU engineering graduate. Whilst ENG292 takes place in the context of a paid workplacement, it does not meet the CSU definition of WPL.  During their workplacement students need to prepare a refective, informative portfolio detailing their work experience and skills mastered.  Progress in the portfolio will show that they are exhibiting the required graduate attributes at a developing level.  This subject assesses the experience and practice of students and the way in which this is presented to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Display a conceptual understanding of the mathematics, numerical analysis, statistics, and computer and information sciences which underpin the technology domain;
  • Demonstrate engineering design practices as applied in industry;
  • Apply established engineering methods to broadly-defined problem solving within the technology domain;
  • Fluently apply a range of engineering tools to practical problems;
  • Demonstrate effective communication through a range of different communication channels, such as technical report writing, oral presentations, engineering drawings, user manuals;
  • Recognise information needs and locate, evaluate and use information effectively in a range of contexts, acknowledging the impact of that context upon the interpretation of that information; and
  • Describe how their work placement experiences have helped develop their identity as a CSU Engineer;

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Developing and maintaining a portfolio;
  • Reflective practice;
  • Technical communication, written and verbal for a range of audiences; and
  • Application and integration of technical knowledge to engineering problems.

Special Resources

This subject will be completed while the student is on placement in industry.  Industry placements may require travel and/or relocation depending upon the nature and location of the placement.
