EPT218 Student Learning and Engagement (8)

This subject examines the nature of the school environment and introduces pre-service teachers to the way in which teachers communicate in this environment. Pre-service teachers will utilize the knowledge and experience that they have gained including observation and identification of learner needs and abilities. Pre-service teachers will undertake 17 days in a school setting, 15 days of placement and 2 introductory days to observe, evaluate, devise, and utilize a range of teaching strategies and resources that benefit school children.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to plan and implement learning activities for effective teaching and learning;
  • be able to create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments;
  • be able to assess and provide feedback on student learning;
  • be able to engage in critical enquiry and dialogue with a range of educational professionals such as subject coordinator, university liaison officer and supervising teacher;
  • be able to engage in professional learning through participation in school-based experience with a view to developing their own teaching style;
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers through the construction of a professional learning portfolio;
  • complete two days of observations in a school setting; and
  • complete fifteen days of supervised placement in a school setting.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 15 to 17 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

This subject will involve 17 days in a school setting, 15 days of placement and 2 introductory days.
