EPT452 Assessment and Reporting: The Primary Years (K-2) (16)

In this subject, students will explore assessment practices in primary school settings and critically discuss the purposes, methods, strengths and challenges of assessing learning.  Students will become familiar with the grading systems commonly used in primary school settings in Australia.   They will develop a critical awareness of the usefulness of different approaches for recording children's learning for planning purposes, and to reflect on teacher professional practice to improve student learning outcomes. This subject examines skills and practices required for effective assessment and reporting.

Students will complete a 30 day placement in a K-2 classroom.  They will plan sequences of learning based on observation and assessment of childrens abilities. Based on the CSU students area of specialisation either literacy or numeracy-  lessons should include catering for differentiation and the use of formative and summative assessment strategies that guide teaching and learning.   Students will have the opportunity to reflect on practice to guide future planning for improved learning outcomes.
