GER503 Leadership in Complex Aged Care Practice (8)

This subject develops leadership skills for health and aged care practitioners, in particular addressing complex care issues and organisational change. Students will apply models of advanced interdisciplinary practice and leadership strategies to examine complex practice issues, critique existing practices and develop change management plans. As part of developing change management strategies, students will be required to reflect on their own personal values, skills and experience as agents of change.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to evaluate effective strategies for managing changes in practice and apply these within aged care organisations;
  • be able to analyse and apply advanced skills to make appropriate clinical decisions in a range of complex care situations;
  • be able to describe effective leadership strategies and apply these within an interdisciplinary care team;
  • be able to analyse and appraise complex care issues, using advanced assessment skills and an interdisciplinary framework; and
  • be able to explore and articulate their own personal values, skills, practice experience and disciplinary knowledge.

  • Leadership in interdisciplinary practice in aged care
  • Advanced clinical decision-making and complex assessment
  • Clinical and interdisciplinary supervision
  • Managing practice change in aged care organizations
  • Elder abuse
  • Sexuality and intimacy in ageing and aged care
  • Identification and management of pain in frail older adults
