ITI505 Managing Linux Enterprise Servers (8)

This subject will teach students how to configure advanced network services such DNS/DHCP, as well as file services such as Samba on SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server. Students will also look at the set-up and configuration of other network services. Server-optimisation will be covered in this subject as well.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- be able to demonstrate basic DNS and DHCP commands and use them to build and manage a mixed network environment;
- be able to set-up, create and configure Samba, CUPS and Mail services for the use in a mixed network environment;
- be able to understand the OpenSLP and SLP protocols;
- be able to set-up and configure Nagios, Ethereal and tcpdump for use in the management of network traffic;
- be able to configure and deploy Tomcat for use in building Web Services.
