THL501 Guided Research (16)

This is a guided research subject at the Masters level. In consultation with their supervisor, students will select an appropriate topic and write a research essay of approximately 10-12,000 words discussing critically their research question. Students are expected to demonstrate competence in the use of appropriate research methodology together with advanced written and oral communication skills through the preparation and presentation of a substantial research essay. Students will be required to present their research at a Masters Research Seminar prior to final submission of their paper.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the literature relevant to their research question
  • be able to reflect critically on the literature relevant to their research question
  • be able to demonstrate independent research, organisational and written communication skills through the preparation and presentation of a substantial research essay in a select theological field

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • In consultation with a supervisor, students select an appropriate topic for research, develop a research question, and write a research essay of approximately 10-12,000 words discussing critically their research question in a discrete theological field
  • Students will be required to present their research essay at the Masters Research Seminar prior to final submission of the paper.
