This is a core subject to meet the requirements for a primary specialisation in Arts, Humanities and Languages. Teacher education students' understandings of best practice in primary teaching and learning will be developed through inquiry-based learning and assessment. Arts, HASS/HSIE students will conduct an inquiry into a topic in their area of focus from the Arts/HSIE curriculum. Language students will conduct an individual inquiry into a topic of language-specific curriculum and pedagogical studies. All students will expand their understanding of and skills in curriculum integration including literacy, numeracy and critical and creative thinking, and importantly, ways to promote understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and languages in the primary context. A deeper engagement with constructivist pedagogy through inquiry-based learning will occur and students will pay particular attention to the use of ICTs to support student and teacher professional learning.
