POD416 Clinical Reasoning for Complex Podiatric Management (8)

This subject will explore current themes in podiatry practice with a focus on the complexity of client presentations. Students will be supported to further develop skills in clinical reasoning as preparation for independent practice. Students will integrate and apply knowledge to evaluate a series of complex case scenarios, enabling reflection on their learning and professional development. Contemporary issues relevant to this subject include: chronic disease; ageing well and health promotion; Indigenous Australian health and wellbeing; the management of paediatric clients; and the appropriate use of prescription and non-prescription medicines to facilitate integrated care. Case scenarios will focus on a range of commonly presenting pathology within podiatric practice and students will be expected to apply clinical reasoning in order to evaluate the needs of the client and their family/carers; justify an appropriate diagnosis; facilitate a culturally responsive management plan; and enable effective communication with all stakeholders to ensure culturally safe practice. Decision making relevant to each of the complex case scenarios will be informed by the students workplace learning experience during the course and the evidence base. Students will also be required to demonstrate reflection on their learning and its relevance to future clinical practice.
