AGR712 Proposal for Applied Research/Investigation (32)

In this subject, the research/investigation component of the Doctor of Sustainable Agriculture is proposed. Students will work directly with their supervisory team to complete a broad, systematic and critical review of the literature relevant to their field of study, and a detailed proposal for their doctoral research project that is soundly embedded within the context of the current literature. Assessment items will be formally reviewed by an appointed panel of academics in the immediate, or a related field, of research.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Be able to systematically and critically evaluate relevant literature, philosophical approaches, and data collection and analysis techniques in the broad research field;
  • Be able to develop a research hypothesis or question that is soundly embedded in the context of the current body of knowledge in the field;
  • Be able to develop an appropriate conceptual framework and research design that forms the basis for the conduct of the research project;
  • Be able to demonstrate advanced written and verbal communication skills through submitted assessments and seminar presentations.
Syllabus
The subject will cover the following topics:
  • Undertake a detailed, systematic and critical review of the literature in broad field of research related to the project;
  • Develop a detailed research proposal
  • Present the proposed research in a formal seminar presentation to an academic audience
