Abstract

This course-based residential school introduces undergraduate students to tertiary study, distance education, the discipline of information studies, the structure of the Bachelor of Information Studies course, and to CSU services and online systems.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • - be able to demonstrate an understanding of the structure, aims and content of the degree program;
  • - be able to prepare a study schedule for themselves;
  • - show that they can apply a range of study skills;
  • - be able to explain the role, importance and availability of a range of University services; and
  • - be able to explain how the University's online systems will facilitate their studies.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- Structure and content of the BIS degree
- Introduction to first year subjects
- CSU online systems
- Support services available from Charles Sturt University for distance education students.

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 3 day residential school. This course-based residential school introduces undergraduate students to tertiary study, distance education, the discipline of information studies, the structure of the Bachelor of Information Studies course, and to CSU services and online systems.
