This subject introduces the student to the major areas of Australian substantive and procedural criminal law with a focus on New South Wales. The subject builds on developing and demonstrating applied skills of legal analysis and research. The subject covers the application and process of criminal law through case studies on major areas of crime such as Offences against the Person. In this subject students will examine the relationship between criminal law and the criminal justice system and critique the application and process of the law. The subject will also examine the limits and potentials for the law to achieve what it intends, e.g. through law reform.
