MGI516 IT Governance (8)

This subject helps students prepare for industry certification in the Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT® 5) framework, which defines a set of generic processes for the governance of enterprise IT (GEIT). All components of COBIT® 5 will be examined along with its relationship with other popular frameworks and ISO/IEC standards. Students will explore the application of GEIT practices relevant to IT practitioners to allow them to develop the skills needed to evaluate and implement IT Governance measures across a variety of organisational types.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to explain and justify how IT Governance fits within wider corporate governance guidelines, and why it is important to the organisation;
  • be able to compare and contrast the relevance and influence of various frameworks which align with and support the COBIT® 5 framework;
  • be able to critically evaluate the practices of IT Governance within the context of appropriate and relevant ISO/IEC standards including ISO/IEC 15504, 31000, 20000 and 38500;
  • be able to justify and apply the steps in achieving better alignment between IT and organisational goals;
  • be able to evaluate what is required to achieve a shared understanding of how IT is governed amongst all stakeholders; and
  • be able to apply various elements of IT Governance in an organisational context
