Abstract

This subject extends foundational knowledge, skills and theoretical perspectives of professional practice by examining principles of integrated learning, progressive planning and responsive instruction within a context of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogies. Students use their acuity with developmentally appropriate subject knowledge, learning theories and assessment data to inform the planning of responsive progressions of differentiated, inter-disciplinary lessons to advance learning, while planning with the end in mind. Students will explore tensions between prescribed curriculum, emergent curriculum, advanced planning and responsive instruction, referencing contexts such as Kindergarten, transitions between grades and teaching combined grades.
