EER701 Critical Research Literature Analysis (16)

Abstract

This subject is designed to give students experience in locating, reading and closely critiquing a range of research material relevant to their proposed research area. Students will draw on developing understandings and methodological perspectives as discussed in Developing a Research Project to develop skills in high level critical analysis. It is expected that supervisors will also advise of key readings in the area.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
become familiar with the use of database and index use;
read intensively and critically under supervision in the context of their area or research;
have completed a small review of the literature from a critical perspective as a preliminary to carrying out their research;
have developed a focus for the development of their research proposal.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
The syllabus content will be negotiated with supervisor according to student's background and topic. The analysis must, however, include reviews of research reports, review papers, and framing theory. Students will discuss written responses to each individual reading with their supervisor before commencement of their final review.
