MID440 Midwifery Practice (8)
AbstractThe student midwife must be employed (0.8 FTE - 1.0FTE) by an approved participating maternity unit for the duration of this subject. MID440 constitutes the compulsory clinical component of the Postgraduate Diploma of Midwifery program. Essential minimum clinical midwifery experiences identified by the NMB must be competently demonstrated in order for the student to be eligible to apply for registration as a midwife. Achievement of these midwifery skills, clinical placement hours and competencies are recorded, assessed and reflected upon in this subject. The student is also required to critically examine issues that can impact on woman-centred midwifery care. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Be able to perform safely and competently those midwifery experiences identified by the Nurses and Midwives Board of New South Wales as necessary for eligibility to apply to register as a midwife in New South Wales; Be able to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate midwifery care for the childbearing woman; Be able to act as a resource person for the childbearing woman by becoming familiar with community groups; Be able to critically evaluate and discuss those issues that impact on midwifery care; Be able to critically evaluate their practice and examine the research and literature available to help guide their practice. |
