Abstract| This subject focuses on the role and function of the Chaplain in institutional and workplace settings; the development of a theological framework for chaplaincy; exploration of professional and personal issues and their bearing upon ethical practice; the goals and tasks of the chaplain; and the challenging issues that arise in the chaplaincy context. In conjunction with MIN451 Ministry Professional Practice this subject integrates theological reflection with theory, professional issues, vocational observations and professional practice. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to reflect critically on the role and function of the Chaplain in institutional settings
- be able to articulate a well developed theology of workplace chaplaincy
- be able to critically evaluate professional issues in chaplaincy
- be able to integrate and apply pastoral care theory with the function and role of the chaplain
- be able to reflect theologically on chaplaincy in a chosen setting, and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the goals and tasks of the chaplain in that context
- be able to reflect deeply on their own personal qualities/gifts for the ministry of chaplaincy in their chosen setting
- be able to exhibit a higher order understanding of the role of the chaplain in the context of employment settings with denominational, religious, multicultural, ethnic, gender and sexual diversity, and the application of that understanding to the practice of the ministerial profession. |

Residential School| This subject contains a compulsory 3 day residential school.
The purpose of the residential school is to provide an opportunity for exploration of the theological framework, the professional and personal issues, and the models appropriate for workplace chaplaincy and their application to the practice of the profession. Students will be involved in small group discussion, lectures, one-on-one sessions with the subject coordinator concerning personal issues that arise, and workplace focus groups.
