PPP116 Weapons and Tactics 1 (4)

Abstract

This subject delivers the introductory operational safety and tactics required by the operational police practitioner. It introduces students to the ethical and professional application of basic self-defence, tactical options and incident management skills. It does this by requiring students to consider the theory and practice related to these skills, and to demonstrate the achievement of those skills within supervised practical applications.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate and explain the ethical and professional use of force;
  • be able to demonstrate skills in the searching of persons and vehicles;
  • be able to explain the principles underpinning incident and emergency management.
  • be able to demonstrate an understanding of the 'tactical options model'
  • be able to explain and demonstrate safety and containment issues for explosvie devices
  • be able to apply approved self defence skills
  • be able to apply approved defensive and restraining techniques
  • be able to undertake a search for an explosive device

  • the components and use of the tactical options model
  • ethical and professional practice in relation to:
  • triangle of safety & bladed stance
  • searching people
  • searching vehicles
  • bomb awareness
  • incident & emergency management
  • Tactical communication
  • Weapon less control techniques:
  • defensive counter-strikes
  • close quarter defence
  • defence to chokes
  • wristlock and arm-bar
  • close quarter control
  • edged weapon defence
