Abstract|
This subject requires students to spend between 15 and 21 days at a University in an overseas country. During the visit students will have lectures from local academics, visit relevant institutions, e.g. psychiatric hospitals, schools, etc, and experience the local culture and sights. the subject will provide students with an opportunity to become more aware of the impact of the socio-cultural context on behaviour and to develop cultural awareness. it will also provide the opportunity to discover new strengths and abilities, conquer new challenges and solve new problems thus enhancing generic skills. |

Enrolment restrictions|
Students must be enrolled in a course offered by the Faculty of Arts and normally should have completed first year. The number of places available in this subject is limited. A competitive selection process will be used to allocate these places. |

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
Prior to the international visit:

Cross-cultural psychology with particular relevance to the country being visited.

History, geography and cultural traditions of the country being visited.
During visit

Nature of psychology in the country

Application of psychology in the country, e.g. treatment of mental illness, application to education etc

Psychological research being undertaken in the country

History and culture of the country.

Specialised Resources|
This subject requires students to spend between 15 and 21 days at a University in an overseas country. The cost associated with travel and accommodation for the Subject Coordinator will need to met by the School. Students will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses; each year the School will explore opportunities for external funding e.g. via Commonwealth Government programs, to minimise costs to student.
